The fantastic volunteers keeping Ynys Môn and beyond safe

Earlier this year I attended the launch of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Volunteer Rescue Services in Parliament. An APPG is a cross-party group which allows ministers to work alongside campaigners, advocates, decision makers and industry experts to work towards a shared goal. At the APPG launch, I joined fellow MPs in calling for better recognition and support so these dedicated search and rescue teams can continue their vital work.

Our Search & Rescue teams stand ready around the clock to answer every emergency call but they face growing challenges in funding and resources.

At the start of May I visited the MônSAR base on Ynys Môn to meet their volunteers in person. The team showed me how they began, how they’ve grown, and gave me a demonstration of their vehicles and equipment. I even tried lifting one of their First Responder bags, which was much heavier than it looks!

Thank you to every volunteer who drops everything at a moment’s notice to keep us safe. I will continue to press for the resources and recognition you deserve.
