Personal history

Mair Rowlands was born and raised in Cardiff before moving to Bangor to study Welsh and Theology at the University, graduating in 2010. She was elected President of Bangor Welsh Students’ Union between 2010-2012. Mair lives in Bangor with her family and has strong personal ties across Bangor Conwy Môn.

Professional background

Mair has over a decade of leadership experience in higher education, the voluntary sector and local government. Her current role is Director of Bangor University Students’ Union and before that she was a Sustainable Development at the University promoting sustainability across the institution. She has served as a Board member for Menter Iaith Bangor and Theatr Bara Caws and has supported a number of local organisations and community ventures. Her professional work reflects a commitment to empowering young people and communities, and promoting equality, the Welsh language and sustainability.

Political history

Mair was first elected as a Plaid Cymru County Councillor in Bangor in 2012 at the age of 23 and served as Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Leisure. She stood as a candidate in both Westminster and Senedd elections in 2015 and 2016 and in 2017 at the age of 28 was appointed as the Deputy Leader of Cyngor Gwynedd. She is now standing for election to represent Bangor Conwy Môn in the Senedd.
