Community Objects to Large-Scale Solar Proposals on Ynys Môn

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Llannerch-y-medd on Thursday evening (8 May) for the latest public meeting to oppose the large-scale solar farm proposals at Alaw Môn and Maen Hir.

The message was clear: We support renewable energy, but not at the cost of our farmland, our communities, and our way of life.

Alongside Rhun ap Iorwerth MS, Gary Pritchard Anglesey Council Leader and Jonathan Dean a Trustee of CPRW, I shared updates on where both proposals currently stand and what steps we can take next. More than 500 of you have already objected to the Alaw Môn plans and your efforts have made a real impact, forcing delays and further consultation.

But we’re not done yet.

We also announced an open letter to Ed Miliband MP and Rebecca Evans MS:

These proposals would cover around 3,700 acres - nearly 2% of the island’s total land - with solar panels, bypassing local planning authorities and offering little in the way of local benefit.

More recently, concerns about the local benefits of such developments have been further heightened following revelations that workers without the necessary permits were employed at EDF’s existing Porth Wen solar site on the island. There has also been examples of extensive damage to large-scale solar farms in the UK following bad weather.

We want to see Ynys Môn leading the way in clean energy, but that must be through projects that are right for the island, not ones that benefit private developers at our expense.

📣 Please take a minute to sign the letter and share it with friends, family and neighbours.

Community action works, so let's work together.
